Gilwern Brownies
Gilwern Brownies Gilwern Brownies welcome girls between 7 and 12 years old and meet in the Primary School on Wednesdays from 6:15 until 7:30.
We play games, work for badges, and go on trips, Later in May we are going to Techniquest in Cardiff to do our Science Investigator Badge. In November we went there for our Stargazer badge and had a brilliant time. Other trips have included McDonalds Garden Centre to learn about bulbs and Ebbw Vale Fire Station for our Fire Safety Badge. We also have card making evenings and send lots of cards to the Marie Curie Card Appeal for selling in their shops. Soon we have a Breconshire County Animal Safari at Talybont-on-Usk. Gilwern Indoor Bowls Club

Gilwern Indoor Bowls ClubHon. Secretary: John Matthews Telephone: (01873) 830335 E-mail:JoMtt3@aol.com The Indoor Bowls Club meets at the Gilwern Community Education Centre, Lower Common from September to April on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 1. 30 p.m until 5.00 p.m. and also on Friday - 10-30a.m. to 12-30a.m. Established 20 years ago, the Club maintains a membership of over 30, with an average attendance at weekly sessions of approximately 16. Membership fees are decided at the Club's Annual General Meeting (April) and now £28 per person for the 2007 - 8 season. There is no limit to the number of sessions members may attend each week. New members may use club bowls when first joining, but must provide their own bowling shoes (flat soles). Weekly sessions are, in the main, for social bowling, but competitive bowlers are adequately provided for. The Club team plays (weekly) in Division One of the Dragon League and in the Cup/Plate tournaments organised by that League. In addition internal competitions, (singles, pairs, triples) are run throughout the season. Beginners and experienced bowlers are welcome. Please contact the Club Secretary for further information.

Gilwern Womens Institute
Gilwern Womens Institute Gilwern WI meets on the second Thursday of every month except August in the village hall at 7 - 7.15pm. The meeting lasts for approximately 2 hours. We have a speaker each meeting. WI provides the opportunity to meet other women from the village and to enjoy varied opportunities to learn different crafts, walk in the surrounding area, visit places, and to be involved as much or as little as you wish in the WI locally or nationally.
